The westside of downtown Baltimore is home a variety of middle eastern and African restaurants and shops. One of my favorites is a Senegalese restaurant called Diamalaye. The owners are from Senegal and they make a banging Fish Yassa. The fish is grilled and then covered with a lemon-onion-mustard marinade. If you go in and don't order anything else, order the fish yassa. You won't be disappointed.
Diamalaye offers both carry-out and dine in options. They also have a huge flat-screen television that broadcasts African programs. The crowd usually consists of Baltimore natives and french speaking Africans. I don't speak French but I speak food which leads me to visit Diamalaye about twice a month. Diamalaye is located at 327 Eutaw Street.

There is also a small number of Ethiopian restaurants popping up on Cathedral street. I haven't had a chance to check them out, but I'm definitely interested in Tabor. I spotted this place a few months ago. Can't wait to see what the menu is like.
